Why Freeze Dry Flowers?
Simply put, Freeze Drying produces the most beautiful & life-like results. This means that you can rely on:
- Extremely High Quality - better than fresh or air dried because we only choose and use the best flowers, rejecting the rest. Hard to do if you rely entirely on fresh flowers being perfect on the day!
- Long Lasting Beauty - freeze drying is a method of preservation, so how you use the flowers after the event is up to you. There are a number of options, rather than just the usual “throw away”!
- Practicality - mixing and matching fresh and freeze dried flowers to do more. Table-pieces and wedding favours could be freeze dried, as could bridesmaids’ pomanders, whilst your bouquets and the room decoration could be fresh. Your planning is easier and more relaxed, whilst your guests can take their flowers away to keep!
Technically, it is the only process of preservation that does not damage the cell structure of the flowers or petals, so that the original colours, size & form are preserved in as near perfect a condition as possible.
Other methods of preservation that you will see are:
- Air-dried …… crinkly, dusty, lacking colour.>
- Borax ………..like air drying, will not preserve colours & not life like.
- Pressed …….. traditional & produces great beauty but decidedly flat!
- Silica Gel ….. not biodegradable & has been known to cause long-term breathing problems. A real artisan can create stunning effects but “burnt” petals & extremely brittle flowers are more common.
Freeze Drying is the modern, high tech method which, in tandem with our passion for rigorous quality control, clearly produces the best & most versatile product. Of course, for really, really good results we source the best possible blooms – Beauty In - Beauty Out!
Here are a few benefits of Freeze Dried flora:
- Flexibility:
- You can order the quantity & colour you need way ahead of your event. We are less subject to seasonal scarcities because we can freeze dry & store product when the flowers are locally available. This gives us more latitude than fresh or air dried producers.
- Biodegradable:
- Freeze Dried Petals are completely ecologically sound. Once used, they just break down to dust and are far, far easier to clear up than anything else. In many places in the US & Europe, if confetti or petals are required for an event, the use of Freeze Dried petals is mandated.
- Safe:
- Freeze Dried Petals will not stain table linen, clothing or floor coverings, nor will they become slippery & dangerous when wet. If you are planning to use petals inside a church or reception venue, this is important – slippery conditions can cause accidents & someone has to pay!
- Quality:
- The colours & the sheer feel of PetalMania’s Freeze Dried Petals and Flowers are simply far superior to anything else. This is both because Freeze Drying preserves the form, colour & size of the original, but also because we put a huge effort into selecting & sorting the best flower heads in the country.
- Lightness:
- Freeze Dried flowers are considerably lighter than their fresh cousins; this means that you can give a small child a pomander made up of 10-30 rose heads & they will be able to carry it around all day without strain. Of course, this also translates into rather cheaper postal costs!
- Durability:
- Freeze Dried Flora can last for a long, long time. This why Petals can be ordered weeks ahead of when they are needed - you get the colours you require & we store them for you in complete safety, until you need them. A display can last many years if completely protected from UV light & moisture - for instance in a boxed frame or display case.
